When is the optimal time for a leader to begin mentoring followers? Why?
The best moment for a leader to start mentoring followers is when they are just starting out in their career.
This is due to two factors: First, if you take your followers on a path of learning how to be a leader and what it takes to be one, they will believe you are guiding them in an authentic and mutually respectful manner. Second, if you wait until later in your leadership career, your followers will have a tougher time seeing you as anything other than an authoritative figure. This can lead to mistrust and animosity, making it difficult for a leader-follower relationship to take root and grow.
