Despite the fact that the nursing profession is highly valued by the American public, the authors conclude that the country still has a nurse shortage. Nurses are considered as knowledgeable, skilled, and reputable workers, according to Kalisch et al. (2007).
A range of education/credentials, a lack of leadership development, a lack of professionalism, media and online depictions, patients’ personal experiences, treatment by other professional colleagues, and gender role assumptions all contributed to nursing’s uneven image.
Describe how the nursing profession is viewed by the general public. Discuss factors that influence the public’s perception of nursing? Describe ways to educate the general public on the professional nurse’s role and scope of nursing within a changing health care system.
