Effects of prenatal yoga on women and infants
The health of women and their newborns is an important concern in today’s society. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of prenatal yoga on women and their infants. This was a randomized, controlled trial that was performed with pregnant women. The participants were randomly placed into either a prenatal yoga class or a normal activity class for the duration of their pregnancy. After childbirth, both groups were followed up with for one month. The results indicated that there were no significant differences between the groups regarding weight, blood pressure, and most other measures at the time of delivery or one month after delivery. However, the group that had taken prenatal yoga classes seemed to be more calm during labor and delivery when compared to the control group.
